May 13 - Coaming pieces layed out
The piece of Jarrah wasn't wide enough to cut each half of the coaming from a single piece so I decided to do each half in two pieces. The joint will be towards the rear of the coaming and shouldn't be too noticable when seated in the cockpit. I positioned the ends of the two pieces fairly close together so that the grain will match up as well as possible.

I marked an outline around the coaming pieces (allowing about a half inch) and cut both coaming pieces together on a bandsaw. I will rip the piece to thickness on the tablesaw. Note that this operation will result in bookmatched coaming pieces, i.e., the grain of the wood on one side of the coaming will mirror the grain on the opposite side.

The area inside and outside the coaming will be used for the stern and bow accents as well as the flush padeyes.
