3-day West Coast Trip Ideas

Hi All,

I am hoping to tap into the amazing collection of ideas on this forum and am seeking some ideas for a 3-day trip for the second weekend in August. The plan is to take Friday off work (so can leave Thursday evening, if need be) and be back in Vancouver Sunday afternoon/evening. Thinking somewhere in the Sechelt or Southern Gulf Islands areas. (Preferably not Sechelt Inlet since I've already been there a few times.) We are not opposed to taking a vehicle on a ferry if it helps us maximize time.

The friend I am going with is a strong experienced kayaker and I am reasonably experienced but would struggle with extended paddling against strong winds.

Being August we know we'll encounter other people, but don't want to have too much trouble finding campsites with sufficient space.

I am looking forward to everyone's ideas!

I haven't checked it myself, but at an after-paddle coffee session last week, somebody mentioned that campsites at some of the Gulf Islands National Park sites can now be reserved. (Sort of "good news;bad news" IMO.)

Yes it's true. our group leaves this week for Pender Isl . reservations accepted at Beaumont , Shingle Pt, and port Browning sites.
 
I was just at Pender for a few days. We took a day paddle out to Beaumont on Tuesday, it was totally empty.
My take would be it is really not needed to make reservations for this site, and probably not for many if any in the GI, if it is a paddle up site. There is always room, as no one should be turned away if they paddle to a site, as this can cause some danger if it is late, or conditions are crummy. Portland is more popular and we saw no tents there on both a Monday and a Friday noon time....So, maybe some weekend warriors would arrive Saturday AM?
so, take a ferry to Swartz Bay, via cart or car, plunk yourself in and head for Portland, chill out, do a day trip on Saturday, then head back Sunday to the ferries...It is about 2 hours give or take to get to Portland Island from the Government dock by the ferry terminal. Google Map Dolphin Road, and you will see the gist of it. If you do have carts, it is easy, if you drive, you will have to find parking, and that should not be too bad... there is always a way.
NOTE: Just be mindful of ferry traffic, they can sneak up on you. Channel 11 on the VHF is for ferry traffic.
