    I've ordered a Greenland Paddle!!

One thing I've always been curious about is the absence of drip rings on Greenland paddles. What stops water from running down the paddle shaft onto your hands and arms?

WHERE DID YOU PADDLE - January 2016

I launched "Limey", a new Delta 16 in bright green, at the Vancouver Maritime Museum for a simple shake-down paddle up False Creek. Still getting used to the idea of a kayak made of the same material as my kitchen drainpipe, and learned a few things. Plastic is nicely lightweight and...

Charts: Where do you get them??

There is also a handy booklet published annually called "Ports and Passes". I've used it for boating as it contains tide and current data for the area from Washington to Alaska. Included also are "mini charts" for various harbours and passes, and info on services. The charts aren't suitable...

    Necky Elias?

So...I had the friendly staff at the sports store move the Necky Elias onto the floor where I could try it on for fit. Mostly I was interested in the cockpit fit, but was surprised when the seat side-supports dug into my hips. I know what you're thinking (like, lose some weight, dude...), but...

    Skwoosh seat pad

Thanks, Layback. Yes, I'm lucky to have a small beach to launch from. A local builder was able to get his walk-behind bobcat down there to improve the trail and build the shed. Previously, I'd stored the boats under a fir tree, which resulted in a run of sap down the hull of the Force 4. I...

Good to know, and something I hadn't thought of, thanks.

    Baja tour group recommendations?

Wow, lots of interesting posts and links on her blog! (I'm a fan of Lloyd Kahn, who she links to). I was at a SKABC get-together last night and talked with a paddler who has been to Baja a few times. She pointed out that Jan/Feb is very windy (hence the kiteboarding and windsurfing camps down...

    Necky Elias?

Sorry about that - but in fact the Nordkapp might have been a better choice!

    Necky Elias?

Yes, I'm in Vancouver, and not far from Granville Island. That's a good suggestion, thanks. I bought the Force 4 from Ecomarine and test-paddled a bunch of boats first. I recall paddling there in the cold and the rain; I always seem to be doing my boat shopping in the dead of winter!

    Necky Elias?

Hmm - squirrely tracking is starting to sound like a consistent theme for this boat. I'm 160 pounds, so I might have the same issue about not weighing the boat down enough. Thanks for the heads-up. Definitely thinking twice about the Elias...

    Necky Elias?

Thanks, Andrew - that's very helpful. All sounds good except for the "slower" part, but I guess that's what happens with a shorter and wider boat! The glass version of the Elias has a skeg, so hopefully that might help it to track a bit straighter than the rudder version.
