20 reaseons not to paddle the Deer Group

I've been out to the Deer Group twice. Just like Dan the first time was awful, so was the second. There's nothing "Deer" about this group. It should be called the Godforsaken Group.

Great pics Dan. I have been out there before and these photos make me want to go again. You forgot about the porpoises that race past you and make you feel really slow; they are such show-offs.

I know what you mean about those horrible noisy whales. Bell Island is plagued with the cacaphonic beasts --- every time you go to have a snooze they start blowing and huffing and wheezing all over the place --- terrible. And when you try to communicate to them with hand signals that it's not a cheap, low-rent area where that type of behaviour is accepted, they just ignore you! The nerve ...

    Awww Dan?

It really sux to be you huh?
Poor guy - and you even submitted your children to that nightmare as well?
You should be had up for child-abuse

    :p :p :p :p :p

Sounds TEN TIMES more boring and dreadful than playing around in the Qualicum Beach swells and little breakers like Miss V and I did a couple of weeks ago - Sigh

Iwannapaddle, the kids have been subjected to countless hours of Playstation therapy and are slowly recovering. I'm anticipating that by the time school kicks in (in a week or so), that they'll be fully re-integrated into the i-pod culture once again.

Willi, a Deer Group album will be added to the site but it's likely going to take a few months to put it together (I've currently got six more albums in the works).

Thanks to everyone for your comments and concerns. But really, don't go there. You'll hate it.

Dan, was there a camp fire ban while you were there?

No ban that I was aware of. We had a fire every night.

What? So that in a few weeks you can say "Hey, you said that this album was coming -- where is it?". Sorry, but that kind of pressure I can do without.

Since a few people have contacted me regarding the photo that I posted of the bear in the bushes, I thought I should mention that the bear was along the shore at the entrance to the harbour in Bamfield just below the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre.

We saw no signs of bears in the Deer Group itself, but that doesn't mean that they're not there. We assumed that there could be...
