With a couple of friends (we're in each other's COVID bubble, but still masked when not on the water, and distanced at all times...), I took advantage of yesterday's unseasonable warmth and calm to visit a couple of ships in the bay.

Looks like it was a perfect day on the water.

As someone new to the area, are there any special considerations to keep in mind when paddling out to these ships?

Use the usual judgement you would about the weather conditions and your equipment and abilities relative to the fact you'll be going further offshore. Be aware you're pretty much invisible to the ship for practical purposes. I make a practice of not approaching any anchored ship when I can hear their engines turning over - it may be a sign they're about to haul up the anchor and get under way.
