Freya is of a different era, and her achievement will stand on its own. As does Caffyn's. The playing field will always be changing for feats such as the circumnavigation.

Absolutly... I cant wait to see the hubbub when she completes this.

Whether or not she beats Paul Caffyns record matters little in my mind. They both stand on their own. Technology changes, etc etc... look at the boat hulls they paddle in comparison... I forget what Caffyn paddled, but I'm prety sure it was not as technologically designed as Freya's. How about Carbon fiber paddles? GPS? Weather Forecasting technology? Sattelite imagry? Contact with friends via internet (huge moral booster there)?

    More power to you Freya!

In other sports, modern feats does not necessarily discount old heros. Maurice Rocket Richard is still a legend even if he might not do much in todays league. Babe Ruth is still remembered even if his home-run records have fallen.

I wonder if the mainstream media will pick-up on it. I certainly hope so.

Now only 110 kilometers to go.

About a day and a half at her current rate (75+70+70 km last listed days).

    Extraordinary.

Caffyn was paddling a Nordkapp HM with a kick-down rudder installed. Same boat he paddles round the 3 islands of New Zealand with. Same boat he used for most of his circumnav of the entire Alaskan coastline over 2 summers.

I have his book about his circumnav, called "The Dreamtime Voyage"

    It is an awesome read.

A stunning achievement. The enormity of it is hard to grasp. Perhaps the most telling graphic on her website, for me as a European, is the map that shows the whole of Europe nestling comfortably within the outline of Australia. Australia is a continent in its own right and Freya has just paddled all the way around it.

She looked a bit tired in that video. I'll bet the reality of being finished hadn't quite kicked in yet.

The mayor looks like he was right out of a Crocodile Dundee movie.

    Very cool. :cool

Why the sudden change? Can't just be from a post on her blog a few hours ago, could it? Did someone get hold of her?
