 There will be much said about the official opening of the marine trails but Wow should be the first word out of everyone's mouth. Kudos to the organizers of today's official opening. Over 100 kayaks and canoes managed to slip into hiding behind the Dunsmuir Island in Ladysmith Harbor and then paddle in a coordinated flotilla to the official opening area at Transfer Beach - the site of this year's Paddlefest. Clubs from all over as well independent paddlers gathered to salute the First Nations, requested permission to come ashore and voila, park their water vessels to meld into the Paddlefest crowds and listen to the effective speeches launching the Marine Trails. Well done! We should all be proud for and of those who have worked strenuously as volunteers to put this world class initiative together. Can't wait to see the photos taken from shore as the multi coloured flotilla neared the beaches.

Great event and historic moment for all paddlers.
Felt good to be part of the flotilla and to be welcome by the Stz'uminus First Nation chief.
Everybody that has worked on this project should feel very proud!

Is there any photos available, for us poor schmucks, who couldn't make it down to be part of the event. I'm dying to see what a flotilla of 100+ kayaks/canoes looks like.

    Thanks.

I had a hard time comprehending the true and wonderful signifigance of this event. Perhaps the legacy of these paddlers and the BC Marine Trail organizers will be more fully comprehended by my children's children one day in the future!
