Ok, folks, due to a separated shoulder (which almost completely put me out of doing this trip) I suffered last Friday; I will be driving to Bedwell Harbour. This way I will only have to paddle one kilometer.

    So a few questions:

    1) Would anybody be able to tell me where the put in is I should be looking for?
    2) Is it going to be difficult to find parking for up to 3 nights?
    3) Is there a cost for launching and/or parking?
    4) Is the potluck on Saturday night? If so, I just might have some totellini alfredo and broccoli to bring!

I will be taking the Saturday morning ferry. If there is anyone going to the same location, it would be good to know. I really could use a hand getting my kayak off the roof of my vehicle with my shoulder like this.

I am REALLY looking forward to this get-together and do not want my shoulder issue to prevent me from attending!

    -Brad

    1. end of Schooner Way at Medicine Beach
    2. If I recall there is room for 5-6 cars
    3. No costs at medicine beach
    4. Potluck is on Sat :)

If Medicine beach is full you may have to put in at Port Browning. Where I believe there is a cost.

Ok, I talked to the folks at Port Browning Marina. Apparently 'there is a fellow who intends to open up a kayaking outfit' there (implying that there may be a future charge) but 'no one has asked that question before' [about launching fees for kayaks]. So the answer I got was, "No, there is no charge, and provided you do not park in the parking close to the pub, they're ok with the vehicle being left there, out of the way.

Now that is more than would fit in Sheila's or my kayak!

After three test flights of the new aerial photography plane, I've finally got it all trimmed out and flying nicely. Unfortunately, I'm having some reliability problems with some of the electronics. Considering I'd be flying around $500 of camera gear (not to mention the plane's parts) over salt water, I've decided that until I get the plane 100% reliable I can't risk flying it this weekend. So, we'll have to make do with 'regular' photos for the weekend. :(

We'll be paddling out tomorrow - see you then!

Just had a call from Dan. BC Ferries put them on the wrong boat (they wanted to go to Saturna - they've wound up on Pender.) Gave him the phone number for Marc (Phantom Power) who may be able to come to the rescue..

I'm taking the 2.15 ferry to Pender. If you can call them back and let them know? I could help them ferrying there stuff to medicine beach.

I will send you my cell# by PM.

    Cheers,

Just talked to Dan. The BC ferries folk are getting the help of the local kayak rental place to shuttle them to a put-in. Thanks everyone for offering help.

Well, the problem is that you have to wheel your kayak quite a distance to put in and the paddle will be much longer then from Saturna!

Then there is still the weather (wind) that could screw things up.

Anyhow, I hope I can help them out...

They did eventually. But their plan was to be at Saturna, where the put-in is right at the ferry terminal, to paddle to Beaumont on Pender. Not to go to Pender, where the nearest put-in is several hundred yards of wheeling away.

Greg N. left Amherst Ave about noon Thursday and is going straight thru to Beaumont, as the weather looks good.
