LMAO Mick...
Thanks for the tips on a Mayne launching MarK and Rider, I think I see on GoogleEarth how this can be done as well. The dif for me is being able to drive my canoe and gear over for free, and have free parking. Also I appreciate the tidal info, hard to tell what it does in Navy channel during ebbs and floods... my usual rule of thumb has to been to avoid the tail end of large ebbs in unknown areas.
I'll be coming again.
Anyone done research on the ferry times from Vancouver to Saturna for Friday?
Anyone paddling over from Saturna on the Friday? Last year Houston and I paddled over on the Friday. The crossing from Saturna to the Penders is not that bad, but then the weather at that time was still sunny and calm.
9:00 AM and 4:10 PM sailings on Friday from Swartz Bay.

Looks like 7AM via Swartz Bay double-back(arrival at 10:10AM) and
6:30PM with transfer on Mayne(arrival at 9:35PM)...
I'm hoping to paddle over from Saturna on Friday. The group I'm traveling to the coast with may be ferrying over to Pender, but I would really like to paddle the crossing, if I can connect with someone else who is. And the offer from the resort sounds wonderful.
It sounded wonderful for me too, until a call I received from the manager later that day. She forgot to tell me that the spa and pool will be closed that weekend for scheduled maintenance. The burgers and beer will still be available, though!
Too bad, as I was anticipating a fashion show at the pool that weekend. Speedos, letherhosen, a few bikinis and bermuda cuts. :hug :kiss Ah well, we'll have to entertain ourselves in Dan's tent again (but there is big hope for sunny weather that weekend).
Please... no Speedos in the big tent.
So, a literalist like me could assume I should just leave it off?  Lucky for the world I do not own one. My wardrobe runs to baggy and big. Here is an example.
Cape is optional.
LOL. Hey, is that tongue depressor loaded?
At least you have the decency to sensor out some of that bad 'C' word on your t-shirt!
LOL. You guys crack me up. I can't make the Spring Speedo Frolic and Lederhosen Sack Races, but Becky and are scheduled to cruise the Northern Gulf Islands May 17-24, probably locusing at Silva Bay and Newcastle.
We can model our swimwear in the Pavilion on Newcastle for the curious, if they are prepared with scopolamine patches ahead of time: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scopolamine
How many people are going?
I'm in for sure. Possibly my buddy Mike, whom you met last year. And possibly his wife and little girl. We'll confirm as soon as we know.
Four, possibly five...of us from the Okanagan.
Here's the list so far (based on posts in this forum):
Houston - maybe
Kasey + 2 or 3
keabird - maybe
Mike (kayakwriter's friend) + 1 or 2
monster + friend (maybe)
Sushi + 2 or 3
So far it looks like 32 - 40 paddlers a paddling.
Should make for a really interesting pot luck dinner.
cool thanks, now I can go shopping
Dan I'll pay you $1 a fix, if you fix all my typos
The first three are free.
Alas, I'll miss re-visiting Skull Islet that weekend, as I'm flying eastward on a short trip. Wishing you perfect conditions.
