Replacing NDK seat with foam seat

I'm late to this party, but I replaced the original 'hung fibreglass' seat in my Romany with a foam one.

I found the original uncomfortable and too far back for me to properly engage the thigh braces. My solution was to remove the seat and the mounts, make new hangers and a fibreglass back band and fit a Bumfortable foam seat.

I moved the seat forward a little (can't remember how far) with a bit of trepidation but it is fine. The kayak is really neutral; it doesn't have a skeg and I've never wanted for one.

The hardest part was working out how to lay up the back band, which needed a taper as well as a curve. I used a plastic paint pail as a form. I have attached a couple of shock cord loops to the band and my paddle float lives there, protected from UV.

Hope this may be of some value, if not to the OP then maybe someone coming along later.
