Please tell us a little more about your watercraft. I started out sailing decades ago and shifted to kayaking for the simplicity (storage, gear, tithing to West Marine every Sunday, less draft, etc.). I like the versatility of your vessel. Please provide a link where I can find out more about it.
Hi CM... LOL , I love this model as it has literally all the features I need. I'll list the pros and cons for ya.
Pros: It can handle as much as 50km/hr wind at quarter of a sail as I'm still learning. 15-20km/hr wind is more enjoyable at full sail, 25-30 is hair raising, and 35-40 is white knuckles all the way.
It literally take 5 minutes to assemble the AKAS, AMAS, SAIL. When there's no wind, I usually leave the accessories at home/onshore where I'm camping. The 2015 is the newer model with improvements such as the Vantage seating with multiple angles for adjustments and also has lower lumbar support, which I love as I have lower back issues. No more sitting in the puddle (older models) by the seat as it has the drainage toggle which will magically make all your splash water disappear... LOL . The seat itself can be removed and pulled out the foot pegs and you can have a chair to sit on the beach having your morning coffee/sandwich.
The Keel on the right side is very useful when I'm out kayaking and the ocean is rough, waves, swells,... etc. I just pull on the knob towards me and it drops down and help stabilize the kayak as I foot pedal. The mirage drive is very efficient and fast. I've out pedal regular Sit-Inside-Kayakers but NOT the Surfski as I have one as well. Those are super fast Sit-on-Top and Very skinny & tippy.
Hatches are large and space is generous from bow to stern, so you can really load up this baby for an expedition for sure. You can accessorize it with trampolines to take on passengers, rated 200lbs on each side. It's plastic, very durable. When you buy it new, everything comes with it like the paddle, foot pedal drive, sail... except for the wheel... LOL
Cons: it's heavy! 105lbs, you'll need the big ass wheel to move it around. Thankfully it's easy, just plug and roll away.
Expensive as hell!!! New one will set you back over $7K... a used one will range from $4k-6K depending on the condition it's in...
Fairly low maintenance, just rinse with water each time you go out on the ocean, spray the metal parts with some WD40 or Marine grade lubricant and you're good to go!
I hope that help answer your questions... if you have any other queries, I'll try and answer it.
Happy paddling/pedaling LOL
