The article has confused my geography. Are the locations correct i.e. launching from Telegraph Cove and heading to Chatham Island?

You are thinking of Telegraph Cove up near Port McNeill?

Telegraph Cove in Saanich is a popular launch spot for Victoria kayakers.

OK. No wonder I've never successfully met my friends at Telegraph Cove.

    Thanks, John

I don't want to make light of the situation but I think this may have been a case if oceanic road rage.
I'm glad the paddlers had the skills to brace an avoid capsize .
