:big_thumb This really is a dandy link. Got turned onto this neat web site that shows all the motor vessels in inland waters of BC and other places in the world. Also shows their names, size, destinations etc. So those people who might want to track cruise ships, tugs, etc can have a look. And you lucky people with ocean views, can keep track of what's happening out there.

    The web site is:
    http://ais3.siitech.com/vtslite/AView.aspx

Just put your cursor over the triangle and you can get all sorts of info about the ships.

You can drag and pull the map to other locations on the coast of Vancouver Island.

Or if you go to to the "Go to" spot just above the map, you can look up shipping location all around the world.

    Tatlow,

That is a very cool site, and I'm a huge sucker for this kind of thing. Here is another site that offers similar function, including breaking down ships by class, and global weather/tide information:

    http://www.sailwx.info/

Note that sites like these can only show ships equipped with AIS devices, so the actual number of vessels at sea is many times higher than what these maps depict.

This is the site I use.

My interest is in cargo ships destined for Seattle, I like the filter to reduce screen clutter I'm not interested in.
