Any SISKA members in this forum? South Island Sea Kayaking Association is over 400 strong and the largest paddling club in Canada apparently. We are located in beautiful Victoria BC Canada, one of the best places to kayak in the world! Here's your chance to introduce yourself! I'll add my introduction in the discussion.

Hi! I love paddling our local waters, and look forward to spending more time on the water in 2025 -especially kayak camping. I have 4 kayaks and a canoe. My first was a 1998 kevlar Current Designs Solstice GTS-HV which I still own because it's an awesome touring boat, then I purchased an Innova Seawave inflatable touring kayak which I use mostly when I take my dog kayaking. I added a Delta 16 for friends to paddle, and my most recent addition is an NDK Romany Sportive.

Hi Marika. I am a SISKA member since it was founded.
In our most recent SISKA newsletter I drew our members attention to WestCoastPaddler.
Hopefully we will see more SISKA members join this forum.

I was a SISKA member for about half dozen years in the early days of the club, when I first started out kayaking. Thanks to some of those folks, I was introduced to traditional skills (Greenlandic) paddling and became hooked on skin-on-frame kayaks and the Greenland paddle, and of course, rolling.

I just may reinstate my membership for 2025.

I saw Gary’s note about this forum in the SISKA newsletter so have just signed up. I’ve paddled with SISKA on and off for years, and more recently have been doing Greenland clinics with Paulo at Dancing with the Sea. I find value in the SISKA membership even when I don’t attend many events or paddles in a year. It’s a great community and source of information. I would not have started kayaking as a solo paddler over 15 years ago without the wonderful people I met through SISKA who encouraged me.

Thanks Gary! It's difficult to connect with other paddlers in Victoria, hopefully more will join.

Hi Marika. There are quite a lot of SISKA members on this forum, and since the SISKA site has no forum of its own, hopefully the recent newsletter mentioning WestCoastPaddler will see even more people coming to use this. The forum has been running for many years, is consistently maintained, and has a vast collection of knowledge, recommendations, Q&A's and stories.

I recommend the best way to conect with other local paddlers is to join some SISKA paddles which go out weekly. This might also lead to learning about some of the informal groups of varying levels that are on the water regularly who paddle in Class I, II and III waters that might interest you. Give me a shout (click on the name on the left and select 'Start Conversation') if you'd like to talk more about paddling, rolling lessons and outfitting. I'd be happy to help.

And if you can't get on any paddlers (sometimes they fill up quickly), become a SISKA trip leader and lead your own. Worked for me :)
