Two Factor Authentication - why?

I value this site. Do what You gotta do to keep it the way it is as best You can while protecting it as best You can.
There is no other resource like it for sea kayakers. Everything about this site is awesome.

Thank You everyone.

I'm quite happy to use two-factor authentication and I'm grateful to the forum administrators who continue to update the security on this important forum.

Thanks very much. We will continue to look into ways to simplify the log-in process while keeping the site safe. More updates to come on this...

Why does it so often this does not work. 30 days must have past. The code number sent to email, copy & pasted (can't get it wrong), doesn't work, time after time, number after number.

Then the next day, same approach, copy & paste and it works..... Certainly not reliable.
This is the only discussion forum I know of or belong to that has this "sign on for 30 days" thing. And then it fails... again....
Fortunately my kayak doesn't fail.

I was out paddling at the week end and was offered a hand carrying it up the hill afterwards by someone passing by that I had a yarn with. When very old and the not much left on top is very grey, it helps a lot despite the kayak only being about 18kg, wood of course.

I have seen other sites get shut down because the spam became uncontrollable. I have to use 2FA for many things and its the reality of today to ensure secure logins. I have not had any issues with supplying 2FA to this site so far and it has not come up very often for me.

But yes I hear what Mac50L is saying because sometimes its inexplicable why things work one day and not another day.

There are a number of reasons for this that were mentioned in this forum. Please see A Better Solution: Use a Free Authentication App for more info and for an easier method to sign in.

(Apr 21st follow up) TLDR: Individual browser settings and/or using a VPN is what will log members out.
(Apr 22nd follow up): TLDR: Login expired after 30 days.

As a test to see if/when I'd be asked to log-in again within 30 days, I've had a separate browser (Safari) open to this site for 29 days now: So far I've refreshed the page, closed the WCP tab many times, have quit the browser, and have even restarted my computer and each time the Safari opens to WCP with me still logged in.

Admins have no special permissions for logging in as any other member, my browser is set to its defaults. So, if you are experiencing something contrary within this same time period, then it's either from your browser's privacy settings and/or using a VPN. Please see the 'Better Solution' link above for guidance. Thanks.
