What’s the correct channel and phrasing for a VHF radio check in the Gulf Islands area?

Also, what channel other than 16 do you typically monitor?

Thank you!

Monitor VHF Ch 16 (Calling & Distress)
Traffic Services VHF Ch 11

For a radio check a lot of people use working channels 69 or 68. If calling to fellow paddlers "Radio Check, Radio Check. This is kayaker ____, over. Wait for a reply - we usually say "Loud and Clear ____, over and out"

Thank you! I edited my post to correct the typo and have it read Channel 16.

In the Gulf Islands it can be helpful to listen to Vessel Traffic Services on Channel 11. It helps to know where ferries and other large craft are, especially when crossing some of the busy areas.
