So, we were thinking it would be fun to get together for a weekend paddling and socializing. Put some names to faces, have some good food, and generally have great time!

We're tossing around the idea of Portland Island the weekend of April 7,8,9.
Dates and location are not set in stone.

I'm most likely going to want to bring my double on this trip so if there's anyone who doesn't have a kayak and wants to come, you're welcome to take the front seat of my boat.

You'll need to bring all your own camping gear, including a tent.

Would be very cool if you could make it for this trip, Dave.

We should mention that Portland Island is a short distance from Swartz Bay -- this makes it easy for those coming from the Lower Mainland to walk on the Tsawwassen Ferry to Swartz Bay. At Swartz Bay there's about a 400 metre walk to the government dock.

The distance to the campsite at the north end of the island is about 7 km. For more information about Portland Island, see our description in the Paddling Locations Gallery or open the album up in a new window by clicking here.

Might be down in Vancouver for a course at the end of March, so if I can I would love the opportunity to break bread with the WCP cretins (refers only to the Island ones I already met and I mean it in the best sense of the word) again.

I have a spare plastic boat if you can make it down.

Thanks Steve, as that would keep me from test-paddling a composite boat that I might convince myself to buy (slowly, ever-so-slowly digging myself out from last year's purchases). :D

Of course, I'll be there! I may have a second boat also, but for a multi-day trip I'll probably have to take the 'big' boat (unless Dan agrees to take all my gear for once!  ).

Hey Andreas, any time you want to do another trip just let me know! The darn epoxy it taking WAY too long to cure, so the Tern 14 still isn't finished... but I can probably get out for some day paddles, and then longer trips once the Tern is finally done.

I won't have room to take all your gear but I could probably take what you can't get inside your hatches. One way or another, we'll figure it out.

Now, I've just got to find someone without a boat who wants to make the trip.

I'd love to take my Spring Run on a Spring Run but I'll still be on holidays for half that weekend.

    Don't do anything I wouldn't do. OK?
