WHERE DID YOU PADDLE? - July 2006

The waves at the entrance to Active Pass depend on the strength of the current and opposing wind, but there's usually something there on a flood current. However, there are lots of better places to 'play' - Active Pass gets a lot of traffic (ferries and other commercial traffic) so you might consider Porlier Pass (North end of Galiano) or even Baynes Channel (just south of Victoria). Regardless of where you go, be sure to check condition forecasts to make sure you can get back again safely! If you're playing in an increasing current it may easily increase to the point that you get 'stuck' at the wrong end of the channel!
