I came across this organization online and was wondering if anyone has any information about it. I am new to kayaking and thought the training that they offer, as a benefit of memership, sounded like a useful plan.

Hi Nora.
I am not a member of SKABC but do know a number of people that are. The organization is quite active and you would do well to join. They do have a number of individuals that provide training and insight into sea kayaking. Also you will be able to join up with groups and thus paddle into areas you may not be familiar with.
Go for it.

Nora, as rjoutnorth mentions, SKABC is a really good paddling organization -- Mick can probably tell you more as he's a member. Mick? Mick?

You might also want to check out PIKA (Pacific International Kayakers Association), another club that is located a lot closer to where you live. They also have safety training and club outings. They meet at Farnsworth Hall at the freeway exit at Hwy1 and 232nd St in Langley each month from September to June (I think). You can get more information about them at:

Hi Nora, I'm a member of skabc. There will be a meeting at the vancouver
planetarium on sept.8. The meetings usually start around 7:30 pm.
For more info go to www.skabc.org. Also, western canoe & kayak is
having a sale on Aug. 29th at their store in Abbotsford.
Cheers !
