Skookum to the max, Daren! A real masterpiece. I hope you documented it well. Lots of folks will be interested in its origin and its designer.

update on the stove.
with the delivery date looming i decided that i should update everyone on the stove.

in talking with Randy, i decided to make a spark screen for the door opening. some folks just like to lay on the floor and watch the fire burn! :D note that it simply hangs off the Acorn nuts that hold the stove body together.

Image

the admin folks at WCP supplied a plaque that i riveted to the door.

all the parts and pieces.

Daren.........

Awesome, Daren! I suspect that a few kayakers are going to be quite thankful (and warm) for the effort that you and others have put into this.

thanks all;

i'm going to head up there near the end of May to complete the installation. (and hide from the world for my birthday  ).

building this stove has been a very enjoyable adventure for me. i'll be happy to build one for anyone that wants one bad enough to pay the price. they won't be cheap. more expensive than the Kifaru stove as they are made from better materials. built to last.

one concern i have is that it may get stolen from the cabin. not by kayakers, i'm sure. but the cabin and the beach are visited by a lot more people than just kayakers.

Daren.....

there must be some kind of mis-comunication over on the island.
Ken B has the stove and i emailed him the contact info for the pilot. he told me he has had no response.

Daren told me that due to a medical condition he won't be going up to Burnett Bay to install the stove after all. The pilot in Port McNeill has it but I don't know if its been delivered yet.

If anyone is going up that way and would like to install it I can give you a few ideas about what needs to be done and what materials I think are up there.

that is correct.

anyone heading up that way can contact me if they have any questions regarding the stove assembly and installation.

I'm supposed to be getting out of here early but got caught up reading this thread. Heartwarming to see the coast paddling community pull together to make for the continued use of the cabin. Darren, excellent job on the stove. A lot of good work from the heart on your part, thumbs up

:big_thumb Great news- our North Island pilot reports that the stove, pipe and roof jack have been installed at the Burnett Bay cabin.

His quote, referring to the stove : "...working like a dream, that is a well built unit..." He did a lot of work installing it which I hadn't expected - "...we took up 2 cement pads 20 x 20 to put under it for safety and to cover the sand base all we have to do is loosen the stove pipe to flashing clamp, lift up the stove and slip then under next time we're up there, proberly on this weekend."

Daren deserves the ultimate kudos for his hard work building it, and several others of you for getting it delivered to the North Island.

Also had a report from a couple who spent eight days there earlier in the summer (with no stove), had a great time, and dug a new hole and relocated the outhouse!

So head on up there!

A couple of pictures taken by Bill the pilot after installing the stove. He did a lot of hard work, and isn't done yet!

Next trip to the beach he'll bring cement pads to put under it.

Still looks like hot fires should be avoided as my faded sign suggests - clearances are pretty tight.
