Just got back from another weekend spent fishing up around Squamish. Perfect weather and no accidental swims by any, we even had a light haze in the sky to help keep the sun off us!

A quick stop at mom's place to fill a few bags of cherries before leaving...
Image

Had to be sure to put the raspberries on top so the cherries wouldn't squish them..
Image

Image

A new campsite found on the banks of the Ashlu River.
Image

Image

While searching out some of the tributary rivers along the Squamish for deep fishing holes, I had to do a fair amount of lining.
Image

The search for those deep fishing holes eventually paid off..
Image

A quick dive into this glacial water will cool you off.. just dont stay in for more than a second or two..
Image

Now refreshed, it was time for some fishing..
Image

Rainbow trout are the prettiest fish you'll ever eat!
Image

Dinner was on the way back to the camp site before long...
Image

My proud underwear trophy pose...
Image

Beers on the beach...
Image

Time to start cooking those fish...!
Image

Getting dark..
Image

A bit hazy the next day but still beautiful, I just had to paddle back to that fishing hole...
Image

Image

Image

Someone who wasn't happy to share their deep pool with me..
Image

The river was high and fast so it took very little time to get down to our shuttle vehicle and bring back some of the trout for mom...
Image

Sure am glad we got off the river yesterday because as I look out my window right now... it's starting to rain!

I haven't been trout fishing for years, but now I have been inspired! That looks so much nicer than battling with ugly, spiny rock fish.

Another bonus of trout fishing, is that they seem to go down with one little gentlemanly tap on the noggin. Not like rockfish, where you have to savagely bash their skulls in to put them out of their misery.

So very true, I'd almost forgotten what it was like to clean a fish with out having to worry about getting one of those nasty spikes through the palm of your hand. By contrast though, rainbow trout are such drama queens about being caught.. quite the little acrobats leaping out of the water and into the air :D

they're just pissed about being caught on hardware instead of flies.
we ate a couple of fresh-caught rockfish just last week. they are very very tasty, but yes, you have to be careful of the spines.

The area you were fishing is the Ashlu/Squamish junction, as you probably already know. What you don't know is that the killing of trout/char is illegal on both of these systems and for good reason as the populations of rainbow trout are extremely delicate and very location specific.

Please be aware of the fishing regulations in your area next time you head out.
Sorry to bump an old topic.

Uhmmm, I don't think you're right about this.

ASHLU CREEK 2-6 Bait ban; release all steelhead
SQUAMISH RIVER 2-6 Bait ban; release all steelhead
SQUAMISH RIVER’S TRIBUTARIES 2-6 All tributaries closed all year EXCEPT: Ashlu Creek, Cheakamus, Elaho and Mamquam Rivers, and the Squamish Powerhouse Channel

I was with Monster on a couple of those trips, and went again just recently myself. I always check the regs for any place I'm heading to and did on all of those trips so far.
If we did break the rules, could you please provide me with a link of where you're getting your information from? I really do not like the idea that I may have been fishing illegally.

That's because you don't know how to read the regulations, and I will agree they can be confusing. All the information is in the general restrictions section on page 1. All wild trout from streams are to be released.

REGIONAL DAILY CATCH QUOTAS
(See tables for exceptions)
Trout/char: 4, but not more than • 1 over 50 cm
(2 hatchery steelhead allowed) • 2 from streams (must be hatchery) • 1 char (bull trout, Dolly Varden, or
lake trout) And you must release: • Wildtrout/charfromstreams

The blurb you posted is from the additional water specific section. If you have not looked over the first page you may not also be aware that only single barbless hooks are allowed in streams in region 2.
With five dead rainbows the CO would have likely confiscated all your gear and issued a fine.
