Comments:
This is a good novice paddle for either a kayak or canoe. There are many birds to be seen along the way as well as the occasional beaver or otter. Approximately 3.5 km from the put-in is a large Great Blue Heron rookery in the tall trees to the northeast.
There is a current in the river, however if you start out at Harris road, you'll have the current in your favour for the return trip.
For a 26 km workout, you could combine this trip with the North Alouette River trip
Put-in/parking location:
From Vancouver drive east along the Lougheed Highway and cross the Pitt River bridge, take the Dewdney Trunk exit and head west until Harris Road. Travel north on Harris Road until you reach the bridge that crosses the Alouette River. The parking lot is located at the south east corner of the bridge. There is a short trail to the gravel beach put-in, at the end of the parking lot closest to the bridge. Parking is free.
