BC Northern Route - Kayak Carts

I read somewhere that BC Ferries Northern route had kayak carts for walk-ons but that seems to no longer be the case. Can anyone confirm that?

Also, any good intel on either storing or lockingup kayak carts in Bella Bella or Klemtu for a few weeks? Any better solutions than simply locking up to a fence some where? Does anyone know if BC ferries has a provision for this?

Thanks in advance!

Dan

If the cart is just for ferry walking on and off, that is real simple duty that a small wheeled [all hard surfaces] take-apart - simply stored in the kayak could cover.

Thanks Mick. Fair enough. I guess I was just looking for a way not to have it occupy precious cargo space in my kayak. I guess I just have to decide whether to stash it, mail it home, or make room in my boat!

Thx!

Dan

I've never solo'd on or off the ferry at Bella Bella or Klemtu but at Prince Rupert we carried our boats on and off, you are loaded before the cars so we've been able to get prime seating/sleeping spots. I'd find a young strong car passenger and make him an offer he can't refuse :) I'm with you, I like my storage space.

or consider it a useful pc of cargo: at least one person here upon landing in a foot or so water, attaches the cart in the water and then uses it to assist moving the [partially maybe?] loaded kayak up the beach. So options maybe

Not cart-related, but I note that, COVID being what it is, you might want a Plan B. I’ve been intending to go to the central coast for the last two summers but both times had to change my trip due to COVID closures. All of Hakai has been closed. Bella Bella ditto.

Cheers,
Andrew

We took the ferry from Port Hardt to Bella Bella. On the northbound trip, they had a giant cart for all the boats. They forgot it for the southbound trip, so the boats had to be carried on. Several of us worked together to make that happen. Gear went separately.

I'll add one more detail. We carried a styrofoam cooler from home and onto the ferry for some of our perishables. We left it near the dock after we disembarked and it was taken by someone who needed it.
