2010 Necky Chatham 17 Hatch Covers

Can someone tell me the sizes for the hatch covers on a 2010 Necky Chatham 17? I'm trying to source Kayak Sport replacements. Thanks

    Impex Susquehanna info

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had info on this kayak. I can't seem to find much online. I'm in the market for something a bit more maneuverable than my current 18' rudder boat. I'm 6' around 175 lbs. There is one available in fiberglass and another in kevlar. The hatch cover are vcp units if...

Necky Chatham 17 vs Boreal Designs Baffin P2

I'm considering both these boats and was hoping to get people's thoughts on either. The Necky is fairly local asking 900 and the Boreal is hours away asking 1300. I've been paddling kayaks for the last 3 years. My current boat is a Necky Arluk 2 18' composite. I'm enjoying it but have been out...

Big Thanks From the East Coast

Big thanks to the WCP collective for all the advice when I was repairing my old kayak. Especially John Abercrombie and Red Kite. You guys were a real boost. That old boat never looked better. Take care.

    Fuzzy Kevlar Floor

Refurbishing this old Necky has become boxes inside of boxes. I've noticed there is a bit of wear on the floor, showing some kevlar fuzz. Could I just mask a rectangle and "paint" some epoxy? Would a layer of glass hold up?

West System Expoxy Surface Prep-Clean Enough

I never thought of contact cement. That sounds like a good fit. Especially in this application. The stuff is hard as rock. The Acetone doesn't effect it at all. Thank you John. Much appreciated.

West System Expoxy Surface Prep-Clean Enough

I'm getting ready to apply a patch over the attached crack. Eventually this will be covered by a (sealed with Lexel) bulkhead. Obviously I want the patch to stick. The problem is the residue left over from the foam bulkhead. The edges were sealed with some sort of goop(I hope it's gone) but they...

Gel coat/Catalyst ratio for small batch

The gel coat is an air dry. Checked it this morning and it's super hard. Hopefully it sands and sticks OK. I roughed it up with 80g. Would you use a coarser paper? The boat is in my basement. Probably around 60-65f. I'll try halving the amounts and lean towards the hot side with the catalyst...

Gel coat/Catalyst ratio for small batch

My gel coat calls for a 2% mix of catalyst. I mixed 125ml with 2.5ml. It's been a few hours and has cured enough to barely take a finger print. 125 ml was way more than I needed. It took around 20 drops of catalyst to get 2.5ml. I'm thinking it would be safe to reduce those measurements in...

    Rudder Deployment Rope Knots

The original setup seemed fine. Simple and the cleat was solid. If it was shallow I didn't use the rudder. It only took bouncing around in surf once to remember that. This being said I'm new to the sport and open to ideas. Where in the arrangement would a bungee be placed?

    Rudder Deployment Rope Knots

Both knots appear to be some sort of hitch. The forward one wraps around itself to form the adjustable loop and the rearward wraps around the top of the loop. The work on this kayak feels like finding boxes inside of boxes. I hope the winter will be time enough to finish it! Thanks to everyone...

    Rudder Deployment Rope Knots

It's just two knots. I tried to show both sides of them. The knot on the right acts as a tight "loop" and the one on the left is a hitch I can use to tighten or loosen to adjust length. I think I could find a hitch that would work. I just like that the size of the "loop" is equal to the other...

    Rudder Deployment Rope Knots

Thanks I've use that for bungees and thought about them here but I think I'll need some type of hitch I can adjust if the rope shrinks.

    Rudder Deployment Rope Knots

I've been working on an old Necky and was going to replace all the lines. Bungee and static. Anybody recognize the knots they used on the rudder line? Or could recommend alternatives. I would like to position them further forward. Currently beside the rear hatch. Their size makes great...
