    Amaruk vs Looksha T

Has anyone had the opportunity to compare the Amaruk/Looksha T to the Boreal Esperanto? It looks bigger, heavier, faster and puts paddlers further apart...

    Amaruk vs Looksha T

Oh yes the hatch openings on the Looksha T are huge. The bow opening on the Amaruk is quite small. Sounds like there's not a world of difference. When i looked at the Looksha T, i think the bow has more rocker? Does that result in an appreciably drier ride for the front paddler?

    Amaruk vs Looksha T

Hi everyone. I am looking for a seaworthy plastic double of vaguely manageable size/weight so that largely leaves me with the Necky/Old Town Looksha T, or its predecessor, the Amaruk. Does anyone have a first hand experience comparing the two in handling/speed, etc? I came across an ex rental...

Looking for Current Designs Double Vision Kayak

If comparing plastic vs plastic, is there any reason to pick a Double Vision over a Looksha T?

Looking for Current Designs Double Vision Kayak

There is a grey poly Double Vision listed on FB Marketplace in Burnaby/Vancouver area, don't know how old is the ad but it's still there. Also as alternatives go, I owned a 16 ft double made by Azul/Riot/Sun (3 brands of the same company, I think the model was Echo or Polarity) and it was...

    The wondrous hull

To give Mariner their due, the Coaster was one of the first purpose built ocean playboats put into production, the design was very influential.

    The wondrous hull

Uh, meh. My borderline recreational $600 Nifty 385 had no rudder or skeg and I never felt it needed one, in any conditions I have paddled it. My Chatham was also very neutral. I normally manage without even in my Stratos. Mariners are cool and were advanced in their day but time goes by.

    New (to me) Winter Project

Nice to see this boat getting the quality work it deserves! I saw it in the ads but couldn't justify adding to the collection, looks like there was some hackery to be undone, the price makes more sense now. I wonder if the DIY rudder bar at the back was there to make rudder less twitchy , so...

    Electric bilge pump users?

You should chat with some whitewater canoeists, they got the electric pumps worked out. The only difference is salt water that they don't have to deal with.

    Rate your Ameriican made brands

So while I am still convinced this is a totally back-asswards way to go about picking what boat to buy...I happen to own 3 American kayaks and one Canadian canoe, and have owned many more over the years. My US-built Sirocco (from the good old days when they came with the Kajak Sport lids) has...

    Rate your Ameriican made brands

I am for one slightly confused by the nature of this question. Why does it matter in the first place? Is this for buying a boat or investing in a company? If it's the former, you should first decide on what type of performance characteristics and fit you want and then pick a boat that best...

    Necky Thigh braces?

I have had excellent success with peel and stick foam sheets that I've got at Deep Cove kayak, aka Coast Outdoors these days. Barring that most solvent-based contact cement would work fine. If using peel and stick, leave the surface smooth, if using contact cement, rough it up with 40 grit. I...

    Necky Thigh braces?

Rather than pre made angle aluminum which is typically a stiff grade that doesn't like to bend much, i found good success with buying thick aluminum sheet(of the bendable grade of aluminum) and then cutting and bending into desired shape. Foam will stick to bare aluminum fine btw.

    Necky Thigh braces?

If it's a plastic Chatham, they are removable and if so inclined, it's easy enough to make your own out of aluminum, shaped however you like and then add some foam for padding.

Optimal conditions to surf Skooks in a long boat

Once upon a time, many years ago I figured out what makes Skooks good and ...less good. And at some point I forgot. Facepalm . I know it begins to be surfable in a sea kayak at just below 8 knots and stops being friendly around 9.5 when it starts to break. I remember that the same max flood...

How To Poop in Canadian Waters

My general way when camping on small islands is to do it well below high tide line on a rocky shelf that flushes well, burn the toilet paper and put a rock on the deposits.

    Slack tide length

To avoid repetition of already mentioned points, here's my 2 cents. Current-find out where it MATTERS. Unfavorable current can be negligible, a nuisance, an impediment, or a serious hazard. Indian Arm for example, negligible. Sechelt Rapids, aka Skookumchuck, can be deadly if you get timing...
