Discovery Island Marine Park Temporary Closure

Well said "JK"! Here on the Sunshine Coast over the past 10 years in particular we have seen a major change in the demographic. This change has been disastrous for wildlife as the former urbanite wants the views and the rural setting but shits themselves side-ways when a bear crosses their...

Where have all the sea kayakers gone?

The economics of kayaking has become a significant issue on a personal level in recent years, while I have all the kayaking and camping gear I need for most situations I find that I just cannot justify the cost of transporting my kayak by ferry (I have to take 2 ferries to get to Vancouver...

The Pipedreams Project, BC's coast & the Enbridge Pipeline

Re: The Pipedreams Project, BC's coast & the Enbridge Pipeli While the data provided by Ms Krause indeed needs looking into The National Post as a right wing rag is not a credible voice when it comes to anything environmental. They have and always will be a business first newspaper, they over...

The Pipedreams Project, BC's coast & the Enbridge Pipeline

Re: The Pipedreams Project, BC's coast & the Enbridge Pipeli Thanks Kasey for that link; I urge all like-minded true outdoor enthusiasts to register their opinions to counteract the lies of the Conservative Government.

The Pipedreams Project, BC's coast & the Enbridge Pipeline

Re: The Pipedreams Project, BC's coast & the Enbridge Pipeli Thanks "stuckonearth" for the Bateman video link, it says it all. Even Ken should be able to see what is being put at risk but unfortunately Ken appears he gets his science from the Don Cherry school of environmental protection.

    Alex Morton Launches Petition

I am surprised that anyone would take what The National Post and The Financial Post have to say about any environmental issue with an ounce of credibility. They are a business first newspaper (just look at the ownership) who over the years in editorial stance have denied the existence of global...

A Novice Kayakers Guide to North Vancouver Island

Bravo! You’ve got Balls in spades! …..Delta Kayaks must be very pleased overall with the report….for someone who hasn’t got a roll, from what you say, your bracing skills must be exceptional considering some of the conditions you were in.

The Pipedreams Project, BC's coast & the Enbridge Pipeline

Re: The Pipedreams Project, BC's coast & the Enbridge Pipeli ...a little (?) naive of you Ken! .....the tankers are subject to the people on the bridge i.e. human fallibility.... so why should we wish to take that risk considering whats at stake????

    Good sleeping pad

I have the older “7” (?) model and having a bad back I have found it very good…..HOWEVER…….the inflation process can be frustrating as you can only use the carry bag to inflate and the valve does not stay connected a good deal of the time…so it can be a 15+ minute job to inflate properly …..and...

    Books

If this has been mentioned already please excuse…..one of the best, if not THE best, kayaking and adventure books I have ever read is “ Kabloona in the Yellow Kayak” by the late Victoria Jason. This is her amazing adventure in the Northwest Passage, for some of which she was accompanied by Don...

    Run of Rivers

Last week I was speaking with a chap who has a cabin just below the Skookumchuck Narrows and questioned him about the tug boat and barge incident (see July 24th posting in General Paddling Discussions). He advised that there are 3/4 such heavily laden barges coming through each day going to the...

Info on Paddling at Halfmoon Bay

Be cautious in Welcome Passage ...the geography of the passage concentrates the effects of wind and tidal currents......2 kayakers had to be lifted off the rocks (off Secret Cove) by Coast Guard a few weeks ago after underestimating the current in the channel.
