    Smartwatch for paddling?

AFAIK gps accuracy is around 4 meters, maybe less if you have the european satellites connected as well. That 4 m is nothing to a car, but is appreciable to a walker or paddler. Call it a feature, not a bug - in a system designed to guide cruise missles to a target, close enough is all you need.

    Cable locks?

I second Jon's opinion of cable locks. I looked at bicycle locks last year and was told cable locks are very easy to cut. Any cutting tool that can cut a single wire of the cable can cut through the whole cable - one strand at a time.

This is such a great workout trip that I put lines on the map for it. Mileage might be a little more than expected.

    The likes of a Romany

I used to surf a Romany at Surge Narrows, but gravity was unable to match 8 knots current. I downsized to a Pilgrim and it was a big improvement. I use a PilgrimX for daytrips & touring, and a short Pilgrim for Surge.

It is a wonderful trip and you got a great picture of a healthy looking wolf  . I did a similar trip in 2016 but I took the Uchuck III to Kyuquot and ended at Gold River docks.

Lower Campbell Lake can have some wind but I consider it minimal compared to Buttle Lake. The distance from the west end of LCL to Fir Grove rec site is 5.5 km, that's not much fetch. I take a plastic kayak due to the high probability of low water in some portions of the streams.

Pacific Rim Problem-No stopping in Pacific Rim Park Reserve

Suppose a kayaker were to start paddling the WCT and it got dark before they reached the end. Should they call for a rescue? Since they are not allowed to land. If the Coast Guard declined to rescue them, they would have no choice but to land.
