    Sticking My Redfish Seat Down

No worries Oiddad. I'm actually humbled that you mistook it for a Redfish seat. :o This was actually the first fully integrated foam seat that I had ever carved. It was made easier due to the fact that I was fortunate enough to have one of Joe's seats in my Redfish Silver to use for the mock-up.

    Sticking My Redfish Seat Down

That CC foam seat is one that I custom carved for an Explorer LV. The stock foam seat in the LV sucked big time. I used a 3ft square piece of foam and mimicked the features of the seat in my Redfish Silver. I fabricated an adjustable backrest using extra foam and an integrated ½" plastic insert...

    Drysuit socks or no socks?

Agreed. The integrated socks are definitely the way to go and vary inner sock thickness depending on the conditions. I tried a few other shoes/boots before settling on a pair of upsized, MEC low-cut neoprene Moque booties and so far they have worked well for me. They slip on easy enough with the...

    Hoisting kayaks onto vehicles

I use the same method and similar gear selection as Dave. Hully Rollers at the rear in addition to Thule Hydro-Glide saddles on the front load bars. The HG saddles are lined with a layer of felt and pivot to conform to the shape of the hull allowing for an ultra smooth transition. The soft felt...

    KeelEezy Tape

Thanks guys. Was curious to know how it's held up over time. Sounds like the durability factor is pretty high....relatively speaking. Looking at applying a full length strip to an Xplore.

cleaning up and finishing up the inside?

Hi Rick, I can't offer any advice on the merits of varnish however, after finishing both my Pygmy AT 17 and Redfish Silver with WR LPU I don't think I would ever use another product. You can roll on additional coats every 30 minutes or so depending on the ambient temp/humidity. Top coating a...

    Yes it's another GP!

Nice Job! + 1 on Dan's recommendation with the tung oil. If you're willing to venture a step further, consider incorporating a CF ferrule and turn that freshly carved GP into a two piece. I recently completed a second take-apart with clear epoxy tips.

Re: FS: NDK Explorer LV Hi Viv, I’m certain that the condition of your boat is immaculate but I don't think I’m up for a trade. The LV cockpit is actually a good fit for me. I'm just in need of more volume in the fore and aft cargo holds. That being said, I’ll be in Victoria Oct 4 if you...

SOLD! - FS: NDK Explorer LV

Re: FS: NDK Explorer LV Hi Seastar, Hmmm....Do you have any pics of your boat and where are you located? How long have you had the Explorer? I believe that the Explorer has more cockpit volume which might benefit a larger person. That being said, as far as storage aft and forward of the rear...

    Two-Piece GP and CF Ferrule

I believe that Joe O uses CF tape to reinforce the transition joints on his paddles. The CF tape has a much broader weave and is less flexible than reg glass tape so I found it difficult to get it to wrap around the joint without lifting. I even wetted it out before applying it to the joint. I...

    Two-Piece GP and CF Ferrule

Thanks Roy. Figure that I might just have to bite the bullet and have at 'er. Was thinking about relegating it to spare duty……NAH!! ;) Can anyone offer any advice as to how to get carbon fiber to adhere properly? I tried wrapping the transition where the loom meets the ferrule with a piece of...
