    A kayak model question

Mick - Next time I'm in Washington I'll have to take a closer look at the various kayak rudder designs to get a better idea of the concepts that you are describing.

    A kayak model question

I would be interested in hearing your input as to which aspects of the rudder system design are undesirable.

    A kayak model question

Dave - Thanks for your input. I have had a few face to face conversations with the owner over the years and he does come across as arrogant. One of his employees, a former Mad River canoe employee, was an absolute jerk. Alas the word is full of arrogant jerks so what is one to do. I have made...

    A kayak model question

Mick - I agree about the website. It hasn't changed much since computers were invented and has been pretty cheesy the whole time. This may be one reason that they are not taken seriously by the paddling community. As far as the rudder, I like how it automatically centers itself when foot...

    A kayak model question

I have paddled some Necky, Seaward, and Current Designs models. All were fine and compared favorably with the Easy Rider. One drawback to these models was the small size of the hatches which made loading and unloading difficult. The Easy Rider models all have large hatches and carrying capacity...

    A kayak model question

I have a question for the west coast sea kayaking community. Is there something wrong with Easy Rider kayaks? I bought one of their expedition models back in the mid 1980’s and it is one of my favorite boats. It’s carried me thousands of miles with plenty of cargo capacity and a decent...

    Prince William Sound Alaska

I camped at this same location in Harriman Fiord in 1987 and again in 2014. Your tent site choice was definitely more creative than my pick down on the beach. I distinctly recall hearing the icebergs fracturing and sending loud booms like thunder claps echoing back and forth down the fiord.

John - Don't know how I missed your question. It's been a few months since you posted it so here's my late reply. I did drive from home in New Orleans to my put-in at Whittier. I took the ferry from Valdez back to Whittier. The put-in and take-out is easy with camping within walking distance...

San Juan Islands, Washington - 2017 Kayak Trip

These photos are from my week long kayaking trip around Orcas Island, Washington. I launched from Lummi Island and paddled to and camped at Clark Island, Obstruction Pass, Blind Island, Jones Island, Point Doughty on Orcas Island, back to Clark, then back to Lummi Island. The weather was...

Thanks to all of you for the positive comments on my little solo paddling article. Hopefully the information will be of use to any sea kayakers who set off into the wilds by themselves. Happy paddling. Denis

OK - Lets try this again. The link below should open up to a web album that I made months ago when it was possible to make public. It contains a few Alaska ShoreZone photos showing long distance views of Baranof Island. Although these are long distance views most photos are close up shots of the...

Doug I carry a pyramid tent and a Mountain Hardwear solo tent and use one or the other depending on conditions. If the rain is coming down hard or long I cover those with a nylon tarp.
