A few pictures from yet another overnight trip on Pitt Lake.
Though I wasn't going to be out for long I brought all my gear including two cook sets and two sleeping bags. I wanted to see how this kayak, which is still fairly new to me, would paddle with weight in it, as well as sort out any packing quirks.
The waterfall at Defrauder Creek was definitely less boisterous than when I last stopped by. This trip had much less rain but was quite a bit colder.
There was quite a good headwind to fight from just after Defrauder all the way to the end of the lake. Of course it died away to nothing before I could have it at my back.
There was snow at the north end. I suspect that the steeper slopes keep it shaded for longer.
I paddled to Osprey for the night. A wind picked up, this time from the south. I seem to be in a perpetual headwind. Maybe that's an apt metaphor for life. It let up pretty quickly anyhow.
Since it was so clear I opted not to rig the tarp. I had a ridge line up so I could deploy it quickly if I needed to. My camping setup grows increasingly minimalist...
I did bring my little chair, so spent the evening sitting by a little fire.
The stars were nice. Not bad for a smartphone camera.
The next day I had difficulty getting out of my warm sleeping bags. Once the other side had sunlight on it I was able to motivate myself to get up and moving.
The day was super calm. Just chill, almost meditative paddling.
Because I have set a goal of 60km per week for the month of November, I paddled down to Raven Creek, then over to Goose Island, then Dark Creek, then back over to avoid the mudflats.
I'm pleased with the how the kayak behaves loaded. I'm on the hunt for tapered dry bags though. It's tough to get stuff from the ends if you hypothetically forget to tie on a retrieval line.
