Hello,
Does anyone have any experience with the Boreal Halo 130? I'm looking at the rudder version. I don't see any reviews or videos online and would appreciate anyone's thoughts on this boat or on Boreal Designs as a whole. Use is day trips, year round on Fraser Valley lakes, rivers and sloughs but potentially ocean on occasion. Novice but serious. Need ultralight to load myself. Also considering the Delta 12.10.
Many thanks!

I can't help with Boreal info (other than my recollection that the original company was sold some years ago?), but have you considered changes to the rack for your vehicle to ease loading of a bit heavier kayak?
The Yakima Showboat is one option - I've used one and though it's not as effective as Hullivator, it's quite a bit cheaper, and it does help.

Thanks. That is a very cool product and something I will definitely consider for the future. I still need to get the kayak into storage or down to the water so other reasons for a lightweight kayak. Currently I use a Boat Roller I bought at Cabela's, it works great!

I had a look online and that Boreal would be worth putting on your list, IMO. I notice there's a dealer in Surrey.
Double check the weights when you look at boats if that is a concern, as published weights aren't always accurate.
Make sure you can swing your legs in and out of the cockpit easily ('butt first' entry).
Getting a new good-performing light boat can be expensive, and few used boats are in that category...though I did see an Epic GTX for sale online locally a month or two back...so they are out there.

Hi John, I bought the Boreal Halo w/rudder today. I'm happy and looking forward to getting out on the water hopefully in February.
Thanks for your input!

Sounds excellent!
Do you have good 'immersion' clothing (drysuit/wetsuit) ?
Also...
Money spent on coaching/instruction is always well spent IMO, no matter how experienced I am.

No not yet, it's on the list! For some reason this Boreal does not slide at all on the foam blocks I used with the Necky. Must be the different material, the plastic Necky slide very easily on the blocks when mounting on the car top. It's very strange but working on a plan to resolve this somehow.

I wonder is a few pieces of felt, affixed to the top of the block would enable easier sliding.

Yeah that sounds good since many of the kayak saddles use felt. Any idea what type of glue to use that would work both on felt and the soft foam blocks?
