Change Island in Ernest Sound offers possibly the only place to camp for miles around. In an area noted for it's high bear population it is a welcome sanctuary from mainland camping. The only spot to set up a tent is in a grassy area which I usually try to avoid so as not to harm the vegetation. Since I had no choice I just tried to limit my impact to as small an area as possible. A high tide of 18.4 feet actually reached my tent site overnight so the grass and wildflowers are obviously salt water tolerant. Launching and landing is difficult at all tide levels but probably a little easier at high tides. There is no water source.
