I am saddened to read of Dave's passing.
I always admired Dave's positive community spirit, and how quickly he volunteered valuable guidance on topics. He was informed and knowledgeable, but all so positive, helpful and gracious when steering us in the right direction. He was a leader by example.
This thread is titled "Dave Kruger is gone". My initial reaction is that we should strive to ensure Dave is not gone. Our current expressions of sorrow and admiration help to keep his memory alive. Yet I would prefer that as a starting point towards a more lasting recognition. Might we generate an appropriate and respectful memorial for Dave and his significant contributions?
Subject to approval of his family, I would be pleased to contribute time and money towards a project which appropriately acknowledges and honours Dave's memory. A recognition might take any number of forms. It perhaps might include an educational, training, safety or navigational feature or program recognizing Dave. It could be an event in his name, marine camp, rendezvous, award, or other initiative or amenity. Possibly a feature on the site in his name? There are many possible avenues to consider.
Dave was a builder of community spirit across borders. He was a very positive influence. Let us, as a community, respond in kind.
In my mind, we have work to do.
