Going to the Sunshine Coast this weekend and would like any info regarding paddling near half moon bay. Don't have a ton of time, maybe a couple of 3 or 4 hour paddles but if there is a good spot, wouldn't want to miss it.

Be cautious in Welcome Passage ...the geography of the passage concentrates the effects of wind and tidal currents......2 kayakers had to be lifted off the rocks (off Secret Cove) by Coast Guard a few weeks ago after underestimating the current in the channel.

Smuglers cove was great for a short morning paddle. Secret cove had 2ft chop and windy. Was a bit (alot) out of comfort zone and ability. Sunday was a lot calmer but had planned some hiking that day but found a lot of areas to paddle the next time we get that way. Thanks for the suggestions.

Check the weather and tides/current. Its a great place to paddle, but if you are short on time and conditions are not great, then you might not want to. I might suggest Porpoise Bay instead, or Put in at Egmont (20 mins north of Halfmoon Bay) and splash around up there.

Egmont

Just be very very careful and check the tides as just 2 miles away is the Skookumchuck Narrows......

So that's how you get there.... can you drive to Egmont from Vancouver?

You'll need to take the horseshoe bay - langdale ferry to get there from vancouver.
