This campsite is located at the NW end of the Point Vaneput peninsula near the entrance to a shallow tidal lagoon. The beach is sand at all tide levels and a camping area at the top of the beach is above the highest tides. It is located 22 miles north of Petersburg Alaska on the mainland side of Frederick Sound. There is no water source.

Denis,

I have been drooling and slavering over all the tasty spots you have located and have been kind enough to detail.

Tell us, how did you find these and to what extent/how often did you suss other spots before settling on the ones you chose?

I've read a small handful of accounts of other paddlers who covered more or less the same route, and each one has some terrible tales of campsite-less runs and reaches. One, IIRC, landed on a ledge and hauled her yak and entire kit up a short cliff to get away from swash and wave.

I used a number of different sources to get general information like guidebooks such as "The Wild Coast", "Kayaking the Inside Passage", Google Earth, and other web sites. Mostly though I ended up just paddling until I was tired and started looking for a place to stop. Some areas had plenty of sites others had almost none. One day I had to paddle 37 miles because there was no place to camp.
Thanks for the nice comments on my posts. I'm glad you are enjoying them. Check out my web site to read about my trip and see all my photos.

Denis, is that a megamid "tent"? If so, was it your primary tent or your tarp? Thanks, Al
Al
That is the rain fly to a Dana Designs pyramid tent. Sometimes I slept under it with a bivy sack and sometimes I slept in the Mountain Hardware tent. I always used it to cook under.
Check out my web site for my complete equipment list and a story about my trip.
