I use an 'Image resizer' program (Mihov) but most photo programs have a 'resize' or 'Save for Web' option that will do the job. There are also online sites that will do the processing for you. Unfortunately, most phones and digital cameras have default resolutions and image sizes that produce very large files (megabytes) when a 100k file can provide the info needed for online use, in many cases.

Some sites use software that takes care of the resizing for you.
