FOR SALE: $300
Beautiful sea kayak, 17 ft long with rudder. Mahogany deck with solid fiberglass hull.
Weighs 46 lbs (lighter than full fiberglass, and same weight as my kevlar kayak). Stored indoors for the last 5 years.
22 inch beam, smaller cockpit at 30 inch long and 16 inch wide. (I don't think this kayak would fit a larger framed paddler).

Handmade by Charlton Bullock who created Northern Lights Kayaks on Vancouver Island and Triak Kayaks in California (not sure what year made, but it's old).

Needs repairs to the deck on the left side along some spots where it connects to the fiberglass hull (past owner had stored it on its left side and water affected it). The bulkhead in the back is also water-damaged, but the forward one seems alright. (See pictures).

I have paddled this kayak on the ocean on calm days as is, and it manages very well and is very responsive. The hull has no damage and rudder works well.

Hi there! what a gorgeous boat!!!

I have a similar boat that I purchased in May of this year. I am curious if you know the finish used over the mahogany? As well do you mind putting me in touch with the current owner?

If texting is easier my number is 250-216-1782

The original poster hasn't been on the site for almost a year so it's unlikely they'll see your request.
But it is very likely marine spar varnish over epoxy resin. If you're needing to refinish yours be sure and use a varnish from a marine store like Epifanes or Pettit brands, not from the home centre like Helmsman brand.

From the amount of delamination shown in the pictures, I don't think much epoxy (or marine plywood) was used.
I agree that spar varnish is the easiest finish over plywood and resin.
Naomi: Do you just want to recoat the deck for protection, or does you boat have damaged areas like the one above?

Hi John! My boat is not damaged. The finish is just peeling off and it is unsightly. I would like to take it back down to the wood and refinish.

That's good to hear!
Refinishing with varnish is pretty easy.
Good work space.
Good surface prep.
Good varnish.
Good brush ( or roller and brush).
Multiple coats, sanding out any bits of dust between coats.
Voila!
:)
There's lots of good varnishing info from real experts (not me) here and online.

Hi Naomi, I would be happy to connect you to the person who bought my boat. Here is a picture of it after he fixed it up. I'll send him your number and leave it up to him to connect or not.
