This year the Kayak Builder's Meet at the Beach will be on Sunday, May 29, 2005 at Barnett Marine Park in Burnaby. The event will be sponsored by Rod Tait of Orca Boats in Port Moody.

The previous three MATB events have proven to be great events with kayak builders showing up from as far away as Oregon and Montana. If you're interested in hand-crafted strip built, stitch and glue, or skin on frame kayaks, you won't want to miss this chance to view some terrific boats and talk to the people who build them.

Just a reminder about this upcoming event. If it's anything like the past three years, it's bound to be worthwhile attending.

If anyone needs directions to the park or other information, just ask.

Boats will be on display between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM at Barnett Marine Park in Burnaby. To get there, follow Barnett Hwy between Burnaby (at the end of Hastings) and Port Moody -- watch for clearly marked signs on Barnett Hwy for the park entrance -- it's closer to the Hastings end than the Port Moody end.

Following the meet, there is a social gathering planned at Rod Tait's shop -- which is located at:

Orca Boats

What a great day -- 25 incredibly gorgeous hand-crafted boats, a bunch of people talking about building and paddling kayaks, and a terrific wind-up barbeque in the parking lot at Orca Boats in Port Moody.

More pictures coming soon.

(The unusual looking first boat in the photo is Mick Allen's wooden white water kayak, aptly named "Facetious")
